Ana Ivanovic Crashes Out of Wimbledon in First Round

Ekaterina Alexandrova knocks out Ana Ivanovic in the first round of Wimbledon.

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic crashed out of Wimbledon in the first round after losing to world number 223 Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 7-5 on Monday. Alexandrova was the last player to get a ticket to Wimbledon through the qualifiers on Friday.

The Russian player broke Ivanovic in the fifth and the seventh game of the first set and won the set 6-2.

In the second set, Alexandrova broke Ivanovic in the third game but the Serbian got the set in the balance after breaking back in the very next game. Thereafter, the Russian got the better of Ivanovic’s serve twice and clinched the set 7-5.

Alexandrova will face Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany in the next round.
