From 19 May to 2 July, Sri Lanka played 5 ODIs and 3 Test matches against England.

The host team clinched the ODI series 3-0 and the Test series 2-0. With rain playing spoilsport, two matches were abandoned, while one was declared a draw.

1. Jason Roy’s Record Breaking 162

Jason Roy scored 162 runs in the fourth ODI played at the Kennington Oval, London on 29 June 2016 and broke many records. Roy’s 162 is the highest score by a batsman at the Oval and the second most by any England batsman in a 50-over ODI game.

Also, 162 is the highest score amassed by an England batsman in an ODI match while chasing.

2. Chris Woakes – Highest Score By a Number 8 Batsman in ODIs

Chris Woakes scored 95* runs off 98 balls in the first ODI, the most by any number eight batsman in an ODI match. He batted for 145 minutes during his knock, which is the most time spent at the crease by any number eight batsman in ODIs.

Previously, the record of the most time spent at the crease by a number eight batsman was held by New Zealand’s Chris Harris. He batted for 142 minutes against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1997.

3. Record Breaking Opening Partnership

In the second ODI of the series, Alex Hales and Jason Roy added 256 runs for the opening wicket in Birmingham on 24 June 2016. Hales and Roy recorded the highest partnership by any England pair for any wicket against any opposition in ODIs.

Previously the record was held by Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott. They put together 250 runs against Bangladesh in Birmingham in 2010.

4. Highest Successful Chase Without Losing Any Wicket in ODIs

England chased down the target of 255 runs in the second ODI against Sri Lanka without losing any wicket from 34.1 overs.

It is the highest target successfully chased down without losing any wicket in ODIs. England beat New Zealand’s record who chased down 236 against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2015.

5. England’s Second Highest Successful Chase in ODIs

England scored 309 runs while chasing in the fourth ODI match at Kennington Oval, London on 29 June 2016. It is their second highest successful chase in ODIs. Their highest successful run chase in ODIs is 350 which they scored against New Zealand in Nottingham in 2015.

6. Buttler-Woakes – Nervous Nineties

In the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Jos Buttler scored 93 runs and Chris Woakes scored 95* runs and this was the first instance when two England batsmen ended their innings in 90s in an ODI. Overall, it was the 15th instance in ODIs and the third time against Sri Lanka.

7. Jos Buttler’s Record Dismissals in ODIs

Before the ODI series, Jos Buttler had claimed 96 dismissals in ODIs. After claiming six more dismissals in the series Buttler has become the second England wicket-keeper to claim 100 dismissals in ODIs. Alec Stewart has claimed 163 dismissals for England, the most by any wicket-keeper.

8. Morgan’s 100 sixes in ODIs

Eoin Morgan became the first England player to strike 100 sixes in ODIs by hitting a six against Sri Lanka in the fifth ODI in Cardiff. Overall, he has hit 118 sixes in ODIs however 18 of those sixes were struck while representing Ireland.

9. Most Runs Strung Without a Century Stand in ODIs

In this ODI series, by adding 335 runs, now Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal have added 1381 runs in ODIs from 38 innings without a single century stand between them and therefore they broke the record held by Alistair Campbell and Guy Whittall, who scored 1249 runs together without a single century stand in ODIs.

Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews have notched 10 fifty-plus partnerships in ODIs.
