Adam Gilchrist’s Sagittarius Strikers thrashed Graeme Smith’s Virgo Super Kings by 26 runs in the third match of the Masters Champions League in Dubai.

The New Zealand duo, Shane Bond and Daniel Vettori ran through the Super Kings batting order and restricted them to 131/9 in their 20 overs. The Virgos were chasing a formidable total of 158. Bond and Vettori picked up three wickets each.

The Super Kings lost Smith in the very first over and then they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Azhar Mahmmod came in down the order and cracked 51 off 31 balls, but it was a little too late.

Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene played a crackling innings of 69 from 47 balls for the Strikers. He smashed seven boundaries and three sixes.

Cameos from Michael Carberry (27) and Jonathan Trott (22) helped the Strikers post a competitive total.
