Thanks to a legal glitch in the final hours, VK Sasikala’s swearing-in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu may be postponed. According to reports, the ceremony has been put on hold until the Supreme Court gives its verdict in the disproportionate assets case.
Satta Panchayat Iyakkam, a social organisation from Tamil Nadu, has reportedly moved a Public Interest Litigation in the apex court, asking for a stay on the ceremony till the verdict is out.
Both Jayalalithaa and Sasikala were accused in the case and were even convicted by a trial court in Bengaluru, but the Karnataka High Court later reversed the order.
According to reports, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, C Vidyasagar Rao is unlikely to administer the oath as he’s examining the legal implications of the pending DA case. The ceremony was to be held at Madras University.
Earlier this week, expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa had written a letter to the Prime Minister criticising the move to make ‘Chinamma’ the CM, alleging that she has a “criminal background”.
