Nagaland Unrest: Army Deployed in Wake of Protests Over ULB Quota

Traditional Naga tribal groups have been protesting against the 33 percent reservation for women in ULB polls.

Five army columns were deployed to aid the Civil Authority in Kohima to bring the situation under control in Dimapur.

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on 2 February rejected the demand for his government’s resignation following the death of two persons in anti-ULB poll agitation in Dimapur and appealed to the people to stop violence and not fall prey to rumour mongers.

On Thursday, a private property of Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang was set ablaze by protesters. Earlier, over a thousand Naga tribal protesters set fire to the Kohima Municipal Office and the Directorate of Transport office to protest against Zeliang’s refusal to resign.
