The Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday removed the hoardings exhibiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies at different petrol pumps across the city. The local governing body maintains that the action is being initiated in accordance with the procedure and is not related to the TMC rage against the BJP.

According to the AMC, which is under the TMC rule, notices were served to petrol pumps to pay tax for hoardings of PM Modi. Notices were issued to 40 petrol pumps under the corporation a fortnight ago, said AMC officials.

The lack of response forced the AMC to remove the already installed hoardings. As of Wednesday, 16 hoardings have been removed by the AMC employees and it is expected to continue in the coming days.

Alleged TMC Workers Set BJP Office on Fire

Things in West Bengal appear to be heating up by the minute. In the latest incident, a group of men, reported to be TMC workers, allegedly set the BJP office in Hooghly on fire.

The attack came hours after the BJP issued a veiled warning to the TMC, asking the party to “mend its ways” or face consequences. Furious over the attack on the West Bengal BJP headquarters by TMC activists, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya lashed out at City Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar for tuning a “blind eye” to the attack.
