Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Amit Shah said that the Samajwadi Party (SP), and not the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), is the main competition in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2017, reports The Economic Times.
Nitish Kumar was also not considered a threat to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.On the contrary, Shah said, his presence will help cut down the non-BJP vote.
In response to queries regarding the BJP’s assessment on the upcoming elections, Shah said:
If Nitish is a factor, it will help us. Our vote will not go (to JDU’s trial of strength) and he (Nitish) will win only their (SP/BSP) votes.
Congress’ Priyanka Gandhi also does not appear in the list of competitors, according to Shah.
He has initiated the campaign planning for the upcoming state elections. Citing general discontent among the people regarding the state of administration in the Uttar Pradesh, Shah said that he’s certain that BJP will get full majority in the state.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had secured 73 of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
In 2017, UP, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Punjab will go to vote.
