Listen | MHA ‘Snooping’ Notification Not New But Still A Problem

A notification from the Home Ministry has shaken up social media. The notification authorises 10 central agencies the right to have access to intercept, monitor and decrypt any information generated, transmitted, received or stored in any computer resource. The agencies listed are Intelligence Bureau, Narcotics Control Bureau, ED, Central Board of direct taxes, directorate of Revenue Intelligence, CBI, NIA, RAW, Directorate of Signal Intelligence (for J&K, NE and Assam), Delhi Commissioner of Police.

But as per Section 69 of the IT act of 2000, such a law was already in place and as the MHA clarified “this notification does not confer any new powers.” Then what is the hype around this notification about? Tune in to The Big Story to find out!
