Manzoor Ahmad Deva was killed in an attack on the Sunjwan army camp by militants on Saturday, 10 February. Apart from him, five other army men namely Subedar Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Havaldar Habibullah Qureshi, Constable Mohammad Iqbal, Lance Naik Muhammad Iqbal Sheikh and Madan Lal Choudhary lost their lives as well. All martyrs, except Choudhary, hail from Kashmir.
Their bodies were flown to Badamibagh Army Headquarters in Srinagar where the army paid its last tributes before handing over the bodies to their family members.
Lance Naik Muhammad Iqbal Sheikh’s father, who lived with him in the army quarters, was also killed in the same attack. Sheikh is survived by his three sisters, brother mother, wife, and son.
Locals gathered in huge numbers to pay their tributes to the martyrs despite heavy snowfall.
Thousands of people gathered for the Nizam-e-Jinaza procession of Manzoor. Manzoor’s brother told the media that in order to end the bloodbath in India and Pakistan, the Kashmir dispute needs to be solved.
