The 10th edition of the Defence Expo held in Chennai was a marvellous display of the remarkable strides made by the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The biennial event saw more than 25 Indian and global companies participating in the Expo. It was open to public on select days, and the last day alone clocked over three lakh visitors.

Foreign players like Lockheed Martin and SAAB showcased their flagship fighter aircraft, and Indian firms like Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd had their own line-up of products.

The highlight of the event was the land, air and sea show put together by the Indian Armed Forces.

Visitors climbed on an Arjun Tank all through the day, and took selfies in front of the models of Akash missiles.

Made by Ashok Leyland, the Stallion trucks are medium-duty defence vehicles of the Indian Army with multiple logistical and tactical applications. They are operational on varied terrains, from coastal operations to high-altitude bases, from deserts to snow-covered mountainous regions.

The Varunastra is an advanced, heavyweight anti-submarine torpedo, developed by Naval Science and Technological Laboratory of the DRDO for the Indian Navy. It is capable of targeting quiet and stealthy submarines in deep waters.

The tank is made by the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) in Avadi, which manufactures heavy battlefield equipment for the Indian Army. They have been booked by the Indian Army till 2035.
