Renewed Call For Gun Control Laws After Texas School Shooting

There has been a renewed clamour for effective implementation of stringent gun-control laws in the US.

Ten people have been killed and ten others injured in yet another instance of gun violence at a school in the United States. The incident occurred early on Friday, 18 May at SantaFe High School, in Texas. The perpetrator has been identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old student of the same school. He surrendered to the authorities and is presently under custody.

According to an EveryTown.org research report, there have been 17 incidents of school shootings in 2018 alone, with the most horrific one at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on 14 February, where 14 students and three staff-members were killed.

Following the rise of incidents of mass shootings in the country, there has been much clamour from US citizens for implementation of stringent gun control laws. The call for gun control laws reached its crescendo following the Parkland shooting incident.

Although, there has much debate on this President Donald Trump has, largely, stayed silent on the issue.

The school-shooting at Santa Fe, Texas and two other incidents of shooting at Boston and at a high school graduation ceremony in Georgia have led to fresh calls for gun control laws.

People across the country took to Twitter to advocate for effective gun control laws.
