The battle between the channels of popular Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie and Indian film production house and music label T-Series has been in the news for a long time now. The recent development is that for the first time since the start of this battle, T-Series has managed to secure a rather significant lead. Thus, it currently holds the position of the No.1 YouTube channel.

T-Series on its YouTube page describes itself as ‘India's largest Music Label & Movie Studio, believes in bringing world close together through its music.' It joined the platform on 13 March 2006.

Whereas, PewDiePie became a global sensation after he joined the platform on 29 April 2010. He is mostly known for his YouTube content which includes different formats like vlogs and comedic pieces.

Their battle started a few months back when both started their quest to get the maximum number of subscribers and become the No. 1 YouTube channel.

Both parties made sure that they would try and get as many subscribers as they could. The head of T-Series, Bhushan Kumar started the #BharatWinsYouTube campaign on social media to garner support, reports News18.

He asked people to subscribe to the channel and ‘create history’.

To add to the battle, many Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor also joined in. Through the help of social media, they attempted to get people to subscribe to T-Series. This could have proved to be significant in helping T-Series get a massive lead and thus clinch the title of the No.1 YouTube channel.

But it was not just T-Series that was getting support. PewDiePie was backed up not only by his legion of followers, but also by famous DJ Alan Walker, who started the ‘subscribe to PewDiePie’ campaign on Twitter, says the News18 report.

Accounts like the @PewVsTGap came up on Twitter, which tracked the difference in the number of subscribers between PewDiePie and T-Series.

T-Series had overtaken PewDiePie’s channel a couple of times in the past, but was never able to hold the lead, until now. T-Series first overtook PewDiePie on 22 February, after YouTube purged thousands of accounts. But PewDiePie had always managed to regain the top position, reports CNet.

As of 30 March 2019, T-Series has close to 92 million subscribers on YouTube with PewDiePie not that far behind.
