The mythical bridge called ‘Ram Setu’, which according to the Ramayana was constructed under the watchful eye of Lord Ram, actually exists! At least, according to the promo of an upcoming TV show airing on the US-based Science Channel. The promo claims that Ram Setu may not have been a natural phenomena as currently considered, and had been built by humans instead.

The show has cited images from NASA’s satellite over the Indian ocean to back up its claim. The video shows a line of rocks running 30 miles long between India and Sri Lanka, and argues that these were placed there by humans, rather than simply being natural limestone shoals.

The promo of the upcoming show ‘What on Earth’, to be aired on Science Channel offered a bunch of hints to the viewers regarding the origin of the ‘Ram Setu’ bridge, with some geologists and scientists claiming that it was man-made, reports Firstpost.

The text accompanying the promo says: “Are the ancient Hindu myths of a land bridge connecting India and Sri Lanka true? Scientific analysis suggests they are.”
The rocks on top of the sand, actually predate the sand. So there’s more to the story.

The show also suggests that the 7,000-year-old rocks are sitting on sand that is 4,000-years-old, with a geologist on the show, Dr Alan Lester saying that the stones were brought from elsewhere and were placed on top of the sandbar island chain.

However, one has to wonder how Sri Lankans and Indians especially, are going to react to this discovery.

In a statement to ANI, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said: “#RamSetu ke saath kabhi bhi koi bhi chhed chhaad nahi honi chahiye. Woh Bharat ki saanskritik viraasat ka bahut bada prateek hai” (“The ‘Ram Setu’ should not be tampered with, considering it is a symbol of the cultural heritage of India”).

In 2013, Ravi Shankar had also said that the BJP would not tolerate any tampering with the ‘Ram Setu’ in light of the Sethusamudram project, which was a long pending plan of the government to build a shipping canal between India and Sri Lanka through the Palk Strait, reports Economic Times.

As of now, the exact dates to when the show is meant to be aired has not been disclosed by the channel.
