Panama Papers: Tax Notices Sent to All Indians Named in the Leak

Officials said that the communications have already been dispatched to around 50 people.

Units of the Income Tax (Investigation) across the country have dispatched questionnaires to Indian clients of the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, reports The Indian Express. The Prime Minister had sought the first status report on the Panama Papers probe within 15 days.

Officials said that the communications have already been dispatched to around 50 people in different cities and that these are in two parts. The first is a clarification on whether they are the persons named in The Indian Express report and whether they gave comments attributed to them on the offshore entities listed against their names. The clients have been given three days to respond.

A second, more detailed questionnaire will also be sent to the Indians implicated in the Panama Papers leak. This communication seeks replies on permissions, details of shareholders, directors, beneficial owners, among others.
