Pakistani Punjab’s former Information and Culture minister Fayyaz-ul Hassan Chohan has been appointed as the Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife minister, reported Dawn. Among others, Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar attended the oath-taking ceremony.

‘Anti-Hindu’ Remark Controversy

The minister was sacked from the post of Information and Culture minister in March after facing severe criticism from members of his party for making derogatory remarks about Hindus .

Chohan had referred to the Hindu community as "cow urine-drinking people" at a press conference, as per IANS.

“We are Muslims and we have a flag, the flag of Maula Ali’s bravery, the flag of Hazrat Umar’s valour. You (Hindus) don’t have that flag, it isn’t in your hands. Don’t operate under the delusion that you’re seven times better than us. What we have, you can’t have, you idol worshippers.”

PML-N Submits Resolution

Pakistan PM Imran Khan had condemned the statement and Chohan had later apologised, saying his comments were directed only at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian media.

According to Dawn, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly against appointment of Fayyaz Chohan as a minister, citing his controversial statements against religious minorities, actors, journalists and politicians.
