The tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan seem to have escalated with the officials at Torkham announcing on Sunday that no Pakistani will be permitted to travel to Afghanistan without a valid passport and visa, with effect from 1 January 2017.
However, the Shirwani tribals, who reside on both sides of the Durand Line were exempted from the brunt of this policy as they posses a temporary ‘Rahdari (Permit) Card’ issued by the Khyber Agency political administration.
Apparently, the authorities have displayed banners at various points in Torkham warning the Pakistanis that they would not be permitted to cross the border without proper legal travel documents.
Extra contingents of security personnel have been deployed at the Torkham border crossing to implement the new policy.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan leaders invited new Pakistani Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa to visit Kabul and have peace talks amid tensions between the two countries over militant attacks in Afghanistan.
