Roads riddled with potholes is what makes headlines, especially when monsoon hits the country. Numerous complaints are lodged in local municipal corporations but to no avail. Lack of funds or manpower are often cited as reasons (read: excuses) for delayed reconstruction of roads.

But Japan has set the perfect example of efficiency after it repaired a massive sinkhole (around 15 metres deep) in Fukuoka city within a week!

On 8 November, a part of the street collapsed, cutting off power, water and gas supplies to different parts of the southern Japan city. No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday (15 November) the street reopened for pedestrians after it was declared safe by officials.

Talk about a speedy recovery!
