Yemen's Houthi rebels attacked an oil depot in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah on Friday, 25 March, ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Formula 1 race, AFP reported. The depot belonged to oil giant Aramco, which has several outlets in the city. A fire broke out after the explosion at the oil depot.

Shortly after, Yemen Houthi group said they attacked the Saudi Aramco facility in Jeddah.

"We did several attacks with drones and ballistic missiles" in Saudi Arabia, including an "Aramco installation in Jeddah (and) vital installations in Riyadh," the group said, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, Saudi state TV said there was a "hostile operation targeting Jeddah oil depot that erupted in flames ahead of F1 race", reported the Associated Press.

Earlier, the Houthi group had said that "they would be issuing a statement on a big military operation deep in Saudi Arabia."

Visuals of the incident on social media showed ongoing race practice, even as large smoke clouds emanated from nearby.

This comes just days after a similar attack at a Jeddah oil depot.
