The two most popular social media platforms – Facebook and Instagram – crashed for many users on Thursday, 28 November, and many of them rushed to Twitter complaining about the outage.

According to Down Detector, the issues started around 2:00 pm GMT (8:00 pm IST), and are affecting users across the UK, East Coast of the United States and Brazil.

Majority of the users reported problems with their news feeds, while others stated that they had problem logging into the app. Some others stated that they had problems with some functions on the app, such as viewing people’s profiles.

Down Detector also posted graphs of both the platforms facing outage around the same time.

People Turn to Twitter, Unleashing a Meme-Fest

With Instagram and Facebook down, netizens rushed to Twitter to check whether the issues were with their phones or with the respective social media platforms. This led to some hilarious memes.

Some netizens wondered if this was an elaborate plan by Facebook to force millennials to interact with their friends and family in the real world.

Earlier, on 18 November, there were several reports that many users had faced Facebook outage, primarily in the northeastern United States, according to Independent.

WhatsApp, which is the other major part of Facebook’s empire, does not appear to be affected by the crash.
