What have users said?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user named '@SakshiGupta_AAP' shared the image with a caption that said, "The sister of the terrorists turned out to be Jyoti Malhotra. Sofia Qureshi is the sister of Indians sir."
The above post had garnered over 22 thousand views on the platform. A different version of the claim showed Malhotra wearing a cap with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) symbol on it.
What is the truth?: Both these images have been generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and are not real visuals.
How did we find that out?: We went through the official social media platforms of Aaj Tak to find out if they had indeed posted these images on their handles.
However, we did not find anything remotely similar to these photos.
The media organisation had shared Malhotra's image on their X handle on 17 May with a caption talking about her arrest.
Hints in the viral images: Both the images had an overall smoothened texture, which is usually spotted in AI-generated images.
To further verify their authenticity, we passed the images through two detection tools namely — 'Hive Moderation' and 'Sight Engine'.
The tools showed over 99 percent probability of both the images being AI-generated ones.
