Videos of Army Jawans Dancing After Balakot Airstrike Are Old

Old videos claiming to be of army jawans celebrating after IAF airstrike at Balakot, Pakistan, have gone viral.

In the aftermath of the Balakot airstrike by Indian Air Force on Tuesday, 26 February, several videos showing army personnel celebrating the attack have gone viral.

The videos showing army personnel dancing to popular Punjabi and other regional songs, are being heavily shared on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook with hashtags such as #Surgicalstrike2 and #airstrike.

CLAIM

Accessed by The Quint, one of the most circulated video shows army jawans dancing to a Daler Mehndi song. It received over 6 lakh views on Facebook, nearly 17 hours after upload. While another video with the same visuals had over 32,000 views on YouTube.

Another video showed jubilant jawans dancing to the popular Tamil song, Rowdy Baby hours after India confirmed the attack across LoC. Multiple videos bearing same visuals were shared across different platforms such as Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook.

The videos showing army jawans celebrating after the IAF airstrike in Balakot, Pakistan are old.

On searching for the original videos with keywords, The Quint came across the similar old videos uploaded on YouTube and elsewhere.

Although the original date of upload could not be verified, it is certain that these videos have no links to celebrations after Balakot attack.

The oldest video that The Quint found showing army jawans dancing to a Daler Mehndi song was uploaded on 20 March 2018. The same video was uploaded on various websites around the same time.

Other videos such as jawans dancing to popular a Tamil song, are also old.

After breaking up the video into key frames, followed by a Google reverse image search, it was revealed that the oldest video was uploaded on 17 February on YouTube.

However, the origin of the video could not be ascertained.
