A video showing men with shaved heads being escorted by police personnel has gone viral on social media, where users have claimed that it shows police arresting Bhim Army supporters in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj following the recent clashes in the town.

The claim: The video was shared by X user '@MeghUpdates', who has previously been called out for spreading misinformation.

  • They shared it with text which reads, "Look what Baba's Police have done with the blue hooligans who went on rampage after getting instigated to take Law & Order in their own hand in Uttra Pradesh's Prayagraj. Where is the Kingpin? (sic)"

(Archives of more posts sharing this claim can be seen here and here.)

Is it true?: No, the claim is false.

  • The video dates back to June 2025 and shows Rajasthan's Baran police punishing seven people who reportedly attempted to loot a petrol pump.

How do we know?: We noticed that the video carried a watermark reading '@VIRENDRASINGH6513'.

  • We found an account with this username on Instagram, which had shared this video on 2 June 2025 with a caption in Hindi.

  • When translated from Hindi, it said that it showed Rajasthan's Baran police arresting people who were planning to loot a petrol pump.

  • The part of this video that can be seen in the viral claim starts approximately 40 seconds into the video.

  • A subsequent keyword search using the term 'Baran petrol pump looting' led us to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, which said that local police had arrested seven people for planning to loot a petrol pump.

Police posts about the incident: While looking for information about the incident, we came across an X post by Baran police, which shared the same visuals as the Dainik Bhaskar report.

  • In it, the police said they had arrested seven people who were planning to loot a petrol pump.

  • "One pistol, one sword, one knife, red chilli powder, and one iron pipe were recovered from the accused," they added.

Additionally, Prayagraj police also clarified that the visuals were not from Prayagraj but showed the incident from Baran, Rajasthan, while responding to a post on X.

Conclusion: An old, unrelated video from Rajasthan's Baran is being shared with the false claim that it shows Bhim Army supporters who were arrested in Prayagraj.
