A video showing a clash between two groups is being shared on social media, where users have claimed that it shows visuals from Nepal’s anti-corruption protests, led by Gen Z.

  • A section of social media users have also shared the clip to claim that it shows visuals of people in Punjab chasing out migrants from Bihar.

(Archives of more claims on social media can be seen here, here, and here.)

But…?: The claim is false, as the video shows visuals from Indonesia’s protests in August 2025.

How do we know?: We noticed some riot shields in the video, which carried the word ‘POLISI’, which stands for ‘Police’ in Indonesian.

  • Taking a cue from this, we ran a reverse image search on a screenshot of the video, supplementing it with ‘Polisi’.’

  • This led us to a report carrying the same visuals, published by Filipino media organisation Bombo Radyo.

  • Published on 10 September, the report said that the Prime Minister of Indonesia had appointed five new ministers in Indonesia following violent protests across the country.

In another post, we found the same video, where the user noted that the visuals showed people in Ternate, Indonesia.

In a comment, they noted that the “crowd vented their anger” on the police only after the latter did not let them express it in front of the DPRD office, which stands for Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah, meaning the Regional People's Representative Council.

Using this information, we looked for the DPRD’s building in Ternate using Google Maps’ street view, which showed us the same building seen in the background of the viral image.

Conclusion: A video from Indonesia’s recent protests is being widely shared on social media, where users are incorrectly linking it to Nepal and Bihar.
