A video showing a uniformed man beating a person holding Bangladesh's flag is being shared as one from India.

  • Those sharing the claim wrote, "Abdul Selling the Bangladeshi Flag in West Bengal. BSF Constable gave him the Best Treatment." (sic.)

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

  • This clip is from Bangladesh. A flag seller, was unintentionally struck by a soldier during a tumultuous instance outside the Bangladesh National Stadium in Dhaka on 10 June.

What we found: At first, we closely looked at the video and observed the writing on the wall. We noticed that a text noted, 'rokomari.com.'

  • We searched for the website and found that its address was located in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

  • This hinted that the video could be from Bangladesh.

  • We, then, divided the video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

  • We came across a video with a similar frame on YouTube by News1 TV. It was uploaded on 11 June.

  • The report suggested that a flag seller was beaten by an army personnel during a football match between Bangladesh and Singapore during some chaos.

  • We found another report by Kalbela from 12 June which noted during the match a significant number of eager spectators, many without tickets remained gathered outside the entrance.

  • At the same time, several people disregarded all safety measures and collectively pushed against the gate, eventually rushing in like an unruly crowd.

  • Amid this chaos, a military personnel inadvertently charged with a baton at a flag vendor within the stadium vicinity. Later, the Bangladesh Army conveyed their apologies regarding the incident and presented him with one lakh taka as compensation.

  • Similarly, the Dhaka Post also reported on this incident in Bangladesh.
