Unnao Rape Survivor Has Not Passed Away, She’s on Ventilator
The survivor was travelling with her lawyer and her two aunts when a truck collided with their car in Rai Bareli.
A viral image is circulating with the claim that the Unnao rape survivor who was severely injured after her car collided with a truck on 28 July in Rae Bareli, has passed away. The image shows an injured girl lying on a bed with bruises on her face.
Several social media users have shared the image on Facebook with a similar claim.
‘ON VENTILATOR,’ SAYS PRESS RELEASE
A press release issued by King George’s Medical University, Lucknow on Thursday, 1 August, at 4:30 pm, stated that Unnao rape survivor is currently on ventilator. Admitted on 28 July in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, the girl’s health is critical yet stable, the release added.
Further, the Solicitor General said that the survivor can be shifted to Delhi if the medical condition allows, Bar and Bench reported.
UNNAO RAPE CASE DATES BACK TO 2017
Over 25 months after she was raped, the survivor, on 28 July, was travelling with her lawyer and her two aunts when a truck collided with their car in Rai Bareli. While her aunts succumbed to their injuries, the lawyer and the survivor herself are critically injured.
The Unnao case pertains to the gang-rape of the woman between 11 and 20 June 2017, allegedly by Shubham Singh, his driver Naresh Tiwari and one Brijesh Yadav. Before that, the girl was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar at his residence in Makhi village on 4 June 2017. Sengar has been in jail since 2018.
