A video of two motorcycles stuck together and spinning on a road is being shared on social media platforms with a claim that it shows recent visuals from Rajasthan's Jaipur.
Who shared it?: Along with social media platforms, multiple media outlets like News18, Times of India, Indian Express, Odisha TV shared reports with a similar claim.
What's the truth?: While the clip is recent, the visuals were taken in Indonesia's Riau province. It has no connection to Jaipur or Rajasthan. This makes the claim false.
What led us to the truth?: On closely observing the video, we found a number plate of a two-wheeler that said "BM 3575 FC...".
This indicated towards the possibility of the video not being recorded in India, as BM series is not used by any state in the country.
Next, we conducted a reverse image search using the help of Google Lens and found the same visuals published on a TikTok handle named 'tridjoko.m'.
The video was published on 17 August and its caption, in Indonesian, when translated to English said, "The fun of two motorbikes drunk on love making out in the middle of the road."
Video from Indonesia: On searching for 'BM' vehicle registration in Indonesia, we found that it is used in the Riau province.
Combining all the hints together, we conducted another keyword (adding Riau this time) on Google and found a post shared on an Instagram handle named 'info.tangerang.raya'.
It was shared on 19 August and the caption identified the location as "Jalan Arifin Ahmad, Pekanbaru, Riau".
Geolocating the place: Team WebQoof searched for the location on Google Maps and using the help of the 'street view' option, we found a place that looked similar to the viral video.
Comparing visuals: When we compared a keyframe from the viral video to a visual available on Google Maps, we found that both of them showed the same location. This confirmed that the video was from Indonesia.
Conclusion: Evidently, the video is from Indonesia and has no connection to India as claimed by social media users.
