A post is doing the rounds on social media platforms with a claim that Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh Mankotia and Lance Dafadar Daljeet Singh recently lost their lives in an ambush in Ladakh.

What did the post say?: Its caption said, "An Indian Army Colonel including a soldier got ambushed in #Ladakh."

What are the facts?: While it is true that both of them tragically lost their lives, it was due to a massive boulder falling on the vehicle they were travelling in on 30 July. This makes the viral claim misleading.

How did we find that out?: A news report published by Deccan Herald said that Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh and Lance Dafadar Daljeet Singh lost their lives after a massive fell on their vehicle.

  • The incident took place in the Durbuk area of Ladakh, while both soldiers were on duty.

  • The report further said that "the bodies of the two personnel are being sent to their respective hometowns with full military honors."

  • It mentioned that an investigation has been launched to find out the exact cause of the accident.

Other sources: Media outlet Greater Kashmir shared visuals from the tragic incident on their official YouTube channel.

  • The video was posted on 30 July and its title said, "Lt Col among 2 soldiers dead, 3 officers injured after boulder hits Army vehicle in Leh."

What did the army say?: The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Fire and Fury Corps had shared an update mentioning that a boulder from a cliff had fallen on a vehicle of a military convoy in Ladakh on 30 July.

  • This clearly established the fact that no ambush had taken place as claimed in the viral post.

  • We further found a post that paid tribute to both the soldiers, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Conclusion: It is evident that the claim of two Indian army personnel losing their lives in an ambush in Ladakh is misleading.
