CLAIM

A Facebook post with a photo claims to show Pakistani soldiers carrying a white flag and begging the Indian Army for truce, as a consequence of PM Modi and ‘Mota Bhai’s’ therapy and the Army’s valiant effort in surgical strikes.

The post is written in Bengali, a rough translation of which is: “This is the result of our valiant Army’s surgical strikes. Pakistan’s Army, waving a white flag, is calling for truce and begging for peace. Take pride in our Army and say, “Jai Jawan”. Bharat Mata ki jai.”

TRUE OR FALSE?

While the photo is real, the claim with which it is being shared is false. The photo is almost a month old and is from when the Indian Army handed over the body of a child who had drowned in a river and floated across India’s side of the border across the LoC to the Pakistan Army.

WHAT WE FOUND

On conducting a reverse image search, we were led to reports about the incident which were accompanied by photos as well as those on social media.

We found that the photo is from 11 July 2019, when the Indian Army handed over the body of a seven-year-old boy from PoK, who had drowned in the Kishenganga River, and his body had drifted into Indian territory.

Reportedly, the child’s body had been recovered in India, in J&K’s Gurez sector. However, the handover couldn’t be completed because the Pakistani Army wanted it to be done at some designated exchange points, which were far from Gurez.

As per the reports, the boy’s body remained in Gurez for two days till Pakistan agreed to a spot on the Churwan border in Gurez. The handover was finally carried out and the child's boy was handed over by the Indian Army to the Pakistan Army at 2 pm, at a point on the Chorwan border.

Journalist Aditya Raj Kaul shared photos from the handover which involved both the Indian as well as the Pakistani Army.

The journalist’s post shows the same photos as are seen in the Facebook post. The white flag being carried by the Pakistani Army as it approaches the Indian Army is a part of the SoP when the troops of two countries meet.

The ADGPI-Indian Army, the official handle of the Indian Army also posted a video of as well as photos of the handover.
