A video which shows a skater flipping his skateboard and performing stunts on what appears to be an undetonated missile, which then explodes, is being circulated on social media as a recent incident from Gaza.
What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the video with a caption that said, "Unreal levels of stupidity. “Self FAFO” in Gaza."
What's the truth?: The viral video has been edited to add the explosion towards the end. We found the original clip, which showed the skater successfully performing the stunt.
How did we find that out?: We conducted a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip and found the same visuals shared on an X handle named '@iamsakibali1'.
The video was shared on 11 May and its caption said, "**”Public Safety Alert!** Never approach or touch any suspicious objects left by war—you risk your life and others’. Spread awareness, not danger. Stay safe!."
Finding the original video: On searching for the caption on Google, we came across the same video posted on an Instagram page named '@gaza_skate_team'.
We did not find any explosion happening in the video, which indicated that the viral clip was edited.
Its caption mentioned a PayPal link, which asked for contributions for the Gaza Skate Team.
What did the longer version show?: Team WebQoof found a different post shared on the same Instagram handle on 20 May.
The caption mentioned a statement from the founder of the Gaza Skate Team named Rajab Al-Reefi.
We found that the man in the video attempted to perform the stunt multiple times and landed successfully. No explosions were spotted.
Conclusion: The viral video has been edited to add the explosion in it.
