A post urging people to actively purchase 'Sena Jal', which was purportedly introduced by "Indian Army Wives Welfare Association", is doing the rounds on social media platforms.
What else did the claim say?: It mentioned the while a 500 ml bottle was priced at Rs 6, a one litre water bottle could be bought by customers for Rs 10 only.
The post further requested people to not buy water bottles manufactured by foreign companies.
What is the truth?: The claim is misleading. While the Army Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) had launched the Sena Jal Project in October 2017 at Delhi Cantt, however, the water bottles are not available in the local market.
How did we find that out?: A simple keyword search on YouTube directed us to a video report published by the official YouTube channel of ABP Sanjha.
It was uploaded on 24 January 2018 with a title that said, "Know the truth behind myths of 'Sena Jal'."
The video report said that AWWA had launched the Sena Jal, which will be used in the programs held by the Indian Armed Forces and will also be used for different units and regiments.
The money earned through the product will be used for welfare schemes for soldiers.
Nowhere did the report mention that Sena Jal will be available in the local market.
What did AWWA's website say?: Its official website that the Sena Jal Project was inaugurated by the then President of the organisation on 11 October 2017 at Delhi Cantt. It further said that a 250 ml bottle was priced at Rs 5 and a 500 ml bottle cost Rs 7.
Team WebQoof reached out to AWWA on email, which clarified by saying "Sena Jal is not sold in local market."
Conclusion: Evidently, the claim of Sena Jal being available in local market is untrue.
