Fact-Check: Viral Video of ‘Brother and Sister’ Getting Married Is Scripted

Video creator Kanhaiya Kashyap created this video, which does not show a real incident.

A video showing a boy and a girl is being shared on social media platforms.

The video shows the girl telling the camera that the two are brother and sister. The girl further mentions that the two got married as she was pregnant.

Is the claim true?: The claim is false as the video is scripted and not a real incident.

What we found: We divided a video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

• We came across the same video on Facebook by a user named Kanhiya Kashyap. It was uploaded on 1 January.

• The caption noted, "So what if he is my brother, I love him cr7 iloveyou" (sic.)

• We went through the user's profile and found several such videos. You can view some of them here and here.

• We also spotted the same girl in a different video which was available on the user's profile.

• Upon going through the video, we found a disclaimer which appeared on the screen for a second. It stated, "This video is purely made for entertainment purposes only." It also mentioned that the video did not aim at offending any person or group.

• We went through Kashyap's profile and found that it was listed under "video creator" category and the bio read that "Kanhaiya Singh. Expose and prank video."

Conclusion: Social media users have falsely shared this video as a real incident of a brother-sister marrying each other.
