A video showing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi holding a microphone at a public event, while talking about the Constitution of India has gone viral on social media.
The claim: In the clip, Gandhi purportedly says, "Who made the Constitution? No. Who made the Constitution? Louder! Gandhiji gave his life to make the Constitution," referring to Mahatma or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
(Archived versions of more posts sharing this claim can be seen here, here, and here.)
But...?: The video is clipped, making the claim misleading.
A longer version of the video shows Rahul Gandhi taking BR Ambedkar's name first, crediting him with creating the Constitution, followed by MK Gandhi's name.
How do we know?: We started with a keyword searching using some words from the clip, which led us to a Facebook post on the Indian National Congress' verified page.
It carried a slightly longer version of the video, where Rahul Gandhi was heard taking BR Ambedkar's name, saying that he gave his entire life to make the Constitution.
The video's caption noted that it was taken during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in poll-bound Bihar's Munger.
Another search on YouTube using the yatra's name and location took us to the full video on Rahul Gandhi's verified YouTube channel, where it was streamed on 21 August.
At the 19:57-minute mark in this video, Gandhi is heard saying,
"So tell me one more thing. Who made the Constitution? No, who made the Constitution? Speak up. Ambedkar ji gave his whole life, his whole life and made the Constitution. Gandhi ji gave his life for the Constitution. This vote theft that you see is an attack on the Constitution."Rahul Gandhi, speaking at the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Munger, Bihar.
It is evident that he didn't credit only MK Gandhi with creating the Constitution of India.
Conclusion: A clipped video is being shared to claim that Rahul Gandhi said MK Gandhi made the Constitution of India.
