No, This Video of US Dollars Being Found in Mud Is Not Related to Punjab Floods

The video predates the recent and ongoing floods in Punjab.

A video showing a hand uncovering bundles of US dollars from a muddy ground is being widely shared on social media shortly afters heavy rains inundated all 23 districts in Punjab.

The claim: The video is being shared to claim that it shows visuals from Punjab, where a family "kept large amount of US dollars buried in their land, after the floods, all these US dollars got spoiled."

This post by X user '@RealBababanaras', who has been called out for sharing misinformation in the past, received over 11,000 views at the time of writing this report.

Is it true?: No, this video predates the ongoing floods in Punjab, which makes the claim false.

How do we know?: We carried out a simple reverse image search on the video using Google Lens, which led us to an Instagram post which shared the same video.

  • It was posted on 11 August, which means that it predates the floods in Punjab.

  • Additionally, it carried a watermark of a TikTok username '@ifound504'.

  • Using a VPN connection , we looked for this account on TikTok, and found that it had shared this video on 29 July 2025.

  • It also had a voiceover of a person exclaiming "Oh my God" and making distressed noises, indicating that the video in the viral claim had been altered.

  • We saw that the account regularly shared videos of a person 'finding' cash and smartphones.

  • It's bio mentioned a YouTube channel named 'Galaxy Restore'.

  • When we took a look at the channel, we saw that it exclusively shared videos of finding smartphones.

  • A further look at its information showed that the channel was based in Singapore.

Conclusion: A video shared a by a Singapore-based content creator is being shared to falsely claim that it shows US dollars uncovered during floods in Punjab.
