A graphic with English news channel Times Now logo is going viral online to claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced his retirement from his post.

It allegedly quotes PM Modi, "16th September, 2025 will be my last day at work" (sic).

It further states that this "announcement" was made two days after his meeting with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a relevant keyword search on Google and found no credible news reports that would support this claim.

  • Next, we checked PM Modi and PMO India's social media accounts but found no such announcement.

  • We also checked Times Now's website and social media accounts but found no such report.

  • However, we did find a report shared by Hindustan Times about PM Modi's retirement debate.

  • It specified that Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule dismissed Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s recent remark linking to PM Modi's retirement.

  • Raut claimed that PM Modi visited RSS headquarters in Nagpur to announce his retirement.

Bawankule shared a post on X, which read, "There is no rule or any decision that the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji should leave politics after the age of 75. It is not stated in any official policy of BJP either."

We also found a report shared by news channel India Today on 31 March, which stated that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed Raut's claims and asserted that PM Modi will continue governing the office "even after the 2029 Lok Sabha elections".

We also checked PM Modi's visuals and posts from the RSS office in Nagpur and it did not carry any information about his supposed retirement.

Conclusion: A fake graphic is going viral to claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be retiring in September 2025.
