An image of G7 leaders posing for a photograph is doing the rounds on social media platforms with a claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not given space on the stage during the recent summit in Canada.

What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the picture with a caption that said, "Another Day, Another Diplomatic Blow. India's Prime Minister Modi is not given a place on the stage during the G7 summit in Canada."

What are the facts?: The claim is misleading. For context, it should be noted that India is not a part of the G7 nations.

  • However, India was invited to the summit as part of the international outreach programme.

How did we find that out?: We went through the official website of G7 Canada, where we found similar visuals of world leaders posing together under the 'G7 leaders' family photo'.

  • It should be noted that France, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada are members of the G7 coalition.

Was India a part of G7 summit in Canada?: While India is not an official member of the G7, it should be noted that India was invited as part of the 'international outreach' programme.

  • Other countries that were invited included Australia, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and more.

  • We also found a different picture, which showed heads of all G7 member countries posing with all world leaders who were invited.

  • The image clearly showed PM Modi standing on the stage. This clearly contradicted the viral claim.

PM Modi at the G7 summit: Team WebQoof found a video posted on the official X handle of PM Modi, which showed him interacting with other world leaders and also posing for a photograph on the stage.

  • It was posted on 18 June with a caption that said, "A fruitful G7 Summit, which witnessed wide ranging deliberations on many issues…."

Conclusion: Evidently, the claim about PM Narendra Modi not being allowed on stage during the G7 summit in Canada is false.
