A six-minute-long video featuring a voice attributed to Piers Morgan went viral on social media platforms, accompanied with captions like “the world must listen”
What's the claim?: The clip suggests British journalist Piers Morgan said the West cannot defeat India, militarily, culturally, ideologically, or economically.
The narration claimed, in essence, that “the West cannot defeat India” and presented India as a “continuous civilisation,” not merely a modern nation-state.
He also said India had advanced learning during Europe’s “dark ages,” and survived colonial tactics of “divide and rule, famine, cultural erasure, conversion campaigns” and did not lose its “soul.”
What we found?: Initially we ran several keyword and specific searches on search engines like Google, Yandex and Yahoo which showed no credible interviews, editorials, broadcasts, or verified posts in which Piers Morgan made this statement.
We then ran the audio through several deepfake audio detection websites like Resemble AI and Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector and both concluded that the clip as "fake" or "likely a deepfake".
We conducted relevant Google reverse image searches and we found a video posted on YouTube, by "Pathway to light", which had a longer version of the audio clip being shared online.
The video description has labelled it “altered or synthetic content” which is an explicit marker that key elements were edited or generated.
Conclusion: The viral audio is an AI-generated or manipulated voice-over attached to visuals.
