A video which shows people being transported in several trucks is going viral on social media platforms with users linking it to the ongoing violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad.
What have users said?: An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the clip with a caption that loosely translated to, "Their preparations are complete, they are ready!! And you ..? Bengal."
(More archives of similar such posts could be found here, here, and here.)
What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to at least December 2024 and has no connection with the violence in Murshidabad. The visuals are actually from Madhya Pradesh's Ghasipura.
How did we find that out?: We divided the video into several keyframes using the help of a video verification tool called 'InVID' and performed a reverse image search on some of them.
This directed us to the same visuals published on an Instagram handle on 17 March, which indicated that the video was not recent.
The clip also carried a watermark of a different Instagram account '@ABID.SHEIK315'.
On searching for the username on Instagram, we found that the user had shared the same visuals on 3 December 2024.
The post had received over six lakh likes on the platform.
We went through the Instagram account and found other posts that seemed to be from the same event.
While one of the clips carried text saying "IJTIMA KI KHIDMAT', a second clip had identified the location as Bhopal. You can watch these videos here and here.
News reports: A report published in Navbharat Times said that the 77th Aalmi Tablighi Ijtima was going to be held at Ghasipura on 2 December 2024, which is around 14 km away from Bhopal.
The report further said that a large of number of people had gathered for the event and the Ijtima was supposed to conclude with a collective prayer.
Geolocating the place: We noticed a signboard in the background of the video that said "Sachin Tent Suppliers".
Using the sign and Ghasipura as references, we looked for the location on Google Maps. We were able to locate the exact place, where the video was recorded.
Comparing visuals: Team WebQoof further compared the keyframes from the viral video to the visuals available on Google Maps and found that both of them are from the same location.
Conclusion: It is evident that the video is old and unrelated to the recent violence in Murshidabad.
