A video depicting an individual suspended from power lines amid pine trees is going viral online to claim that it shows Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Shivani Singh stuck while after her Rafale fighter jet crashed in Pakistan.
How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video on Google which led us to an old Facebook video shared by 'Samachar First', a news portal based in Himachal Pradesh.
This video was shared on 16 March 2025 and matched exactly with the viral video.
The caption stated that a paraglider had gotten stuck in electric wires at the Dobhi paragliding site in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, while trying to fly during a storm.
Taking a cue, we ran a relevant keyword search on Google which led us to news report by Dainik Bhaskar from 16 March.
The report also stated that a paraglider got stuck in a forest after taking off from the Dobhi paragliding site during a storm in Manali.
More about Singh: The fact-checking wing of Press Information Bureau (PIB) took to its X handle to clarify that the claim about Squadron Leader Shivani Singh being captured in Pakistan is fake.
Conclusion: An old video of a paraglider being stuck in Himachal Pradesh is being falsely linked to IAF Rafale pilot Shivani Singh.
