(Trigger warning: Mentions suicide, sexual assault.)

Social media users are sharing posts about the death of Pakistan army's 'Lieutenant Arham', claiming that he died by suicide "yesterday" or on 30 April 2025 as he was sexually assaulted after being forced to join the army by his father.

  • The claim adds that his last words blamed his father for sending him "into hell" because his senior officer sexually assaulted him. "I pray that the Indian Army and Baloch freedom fighters find justice for me," it reads.

  • At the time of writing this report, this X (formerly Twitter) post by one Zaira Nizaam was viewed around ten lakh times.

We also received a query regarding this claim on our WhatsApp tipline.

(Archived versions of more claims can be seen here, here, and here.)

But...?: Neither is the incident recent, nor are the claims about sexual harassment or assault verified.

  • The man, identified as Lieutenant Arham Raza Haider, also referred to as Lt. Arham Changezi, died in July 2024.

How did we find out?: A reverse image search on the lieutenant's photo showed us several social media posts sharing the news of Lt. Changezi's (or Lt. Haider's) demise in July 2024.

  • These posts were shared around 13 and 15 July 2024.

  • While all these posts (links here, here, and here) all stated that he had died by suicide, alleging sexual harassment by senior officers in the Army.

  • At the time, one post rubbished these allegations, stating that Changezi had been "battling depression prior to his passing."

  • We also looked for credible news reports or official statements surrounding his death, but did not find any.

  • However, during this search, we came across a post by Pakistani journalist Ammara Ahmad, who called out the false claim, mentioning that "Lt. Changezi died a year ago."

  • Ahmad added that while there was no knowledge about his last words, some rumours indeed suggested "sex abuse."

Conclusion: While there are no credible reports or official statements to verify why Lt. Arham died by suicide, the incident is old.
