he Social media users have shared a photo of a woman with claims that she was the spouse of the late Pakistan Air Force squadron leader Usman Yousuf, who lost his life in May during Operation Sindoor, India's military operation against Pakistan after the deadly Pahalgam attack in April.

  • The claim further stated that she was 'arrested' for having a romantic relationship with an Indian diplomat named Suman Singh.

  • The posts also stated that Singh was scheduled for deportation to India within 72 hours.

This post recorded one million views at the time of writing this story. (Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false. The viral image is of Pakistani actress Neelam Muneer.

  • Team WebQoof did not find any links between the actress and the late soldier.

  • Additionally, we did not find any official documents or press releases stating that an Indian diplomat named Suman Singh was posted in Pakistan.

What we found: At first, we ran a Google reverse image search on the viral image and were led to a Facebook post from 7 August 2024, featuring the same image.

  • It was uploaded by a Facebook page named 'Actress Neelam Muneer.'

  • We went through the Facebook profile and its description noted, "Neelam Muneer Khan Pakistani Actress and Model. This is fan page not an official account of neelam." (sic)

  • The page also posted other images of Muneer, resembling the one in the viral image.

  • We looked up Muneer on Google and were led to her official Instagram page.

  • Team WebQoof scrolled down the profile and found images from her wedding from January.

  • Muneer is married Muhammad Rashid who works in the CID department of Dubai Police, reported the Tribune Express.

  • We did not find any links between Muneer and Yousuf.

Social media users have used Muneer's image to falsely spread the viral claim.

About Late Squadron Usman Yousuf: Pakistani English Daily, The Dawn reported on 13 May that during 'Operation Bunyanum Marsoos' (retaliation to Operation Sindoor) Pakistan reported that eleven of its soldiers were killed and 78 wounded while defending the country against Indian military attacks.

  • The casualties included members of both the Pakistan Army and Air Force, among them was 'Squadron Leader Usman Yousuf.'

  • It named the other soldiers who died during the military exchange between the two countries.

  • As per a report by the Times of India from 14 May, Yousuf's death was also confirmed by Pakistan army's media arm Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

  • We found no reports about the late squadron's spouse being 'arrested' on the internet.

Indian diplomat Suman Singh: The claim noted that the late squadron's wife was romantically involved with one 'Suman Singh', an Indian diplomat, posted in Pakistan, who was scheduled for deportation to India.

  • However, we did not find any person named Suman Singh posted as an Indian diplomat in Pakistan.

  • As per the High Commission of India in Islamabad's website, it did not list any Suman Singh in the organisation.

Conclusion: Actress Neelam Muneer's image has been used to make this false claims about a late Pakistani squadron who died in combat during Operation Sindoor.
