A video which purportedly shows several masked and armed men talking about how Pahalgam terror attack will be avenged is going viral on social media platforms as recent visuals.

What's the claim?: An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the clip with a caption that said, "BREAKING. Boom. The Liberation Front of Afghanistan has officially warned: "Pahalgam has not yet been avenged. We will not stop until every ISI-sponsored resistance fighters in Pakistan or elsewhere are hunted and eliminated"."

The above post had garnered over four lakh views on the platform. You can view archives of similar claims here, here, and here.

What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to at least February 2022, which predates the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

How did we find that out?: A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip directed us to the same visuals published on an unverified Facebook handle named 'Supporters of the Resistance Front'.

  • It was posted on 6 February 2022 and its caption said, "The Afghan Freedom Front announced its existence. In honor of the beautiful flag."

  • This clearly indicated the video had no connection with the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

  • The same video was also posted on the Facebook page Liberation Front AFG on 4 February 2022.

  • Team WebQoof also found a manifesto of the front shared on the same page that was posted on 1 April 2022.

  • On translating both the pages in English, we did not find any direct anti-ISI or Pakistan mentions.

  • It should be noted that the page has been inactive since April 2022.

News reports: A report published in Afghanistan International said that an anti-Taliban military front has announced its presence in a video shared on social media platform.

  • The front said that the reasons behind their uprising were arrests of journalists, women, and protesters.

  • The same visual was also uploaded in a different report shared by Sputnik.

Conclusion: The video is old and predates the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
