A video showing shots fired in the sky is being shared on social media platforms. Those sharing have claimed that it shows India's counter-attack on Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
What we found: At first, we divided the viral video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.
We came across the same video on YouTube from 2 October 2024. It noted, "Iran Strikes Illegal European Settlers In the Occupied Holy Land." (sic.)
Similarly, we found the same video on Instagram. It was posted on 1October 2024. It noted, "Iranian missiles land in Tel Aviv, Hebron, and other cities." (sic.)
Some news reports: We ran a Google reverse image search and found a report by India Today from 2 October 2024. It carried the same visuals as the viral video.
The report noted "Iran's missile barrage against Israel marked the first combat deployment of its advanced hypersonic medium-range "Fattah-2" ballistic missile in 2024." (sic.)
Similarly, a report by the Daily Mail UK from Octovber 2024 also carried these visuals about Iran shooting missiles at Israel.
The BBC also noted that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the assault included over 180 missiles, aligning with Iranian state media claims that approximately 200 missiles were fired.
Sirens rang out as the total population of Israel, approximately 10 million, was instructed to go into bomb shelters.
Conclusion: An old video from 2024 has gone viral to falsely claim that it shows India's attack on Rawalpindi.
