Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.
We were able to trace this video back to 2009 and is associated with another flight (N9851L), having no relation to the Ahmedabad plane crash event.
The reports verify that although both black boxes from crashed plane have been located and data from one of them has been recovered, no audio has been released as on 28 June.
What we found: At first, we ran a relevant keyword search using the number of the flight as mentioned in the viral clip.
We came across a clip on YouTube from 2009. It noted, "Real Life In-Flight Emergency (audio)."
The video was posted on YouTube on 1 June 2009, and at the 1:18 minutes, the identical Mayday call is distinctly audible.
We also found that this clip was posted other times such as May 2024 and May 2025, as well.
Recent reports about the Air India plane crash indicate that data from one of the two black boxes was successfully accessed and downloaded at the AAIB lab in Delhi.
The plane's flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder recovered from the crash site on 13 and 16 June, respectively, and were safely transported.
A team of experts from various field are currently examining the data to determine the reasons behind the crash and improve future aviation safety. Additionally, the authorities have not released any audio clips from the collected data, reported the Times of India and NDTV.
Conclusion: An old and unrelated clip of a flight's mayday call has gone viral as one from the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
