CLAIM

These images are being circulated on social media with the message: “श्रीनगर में नमाज के बाद सेना पर पत्थर बाजी जारी,क्या इनको देखते ही ठोक देना चाइये”

(Translation: “In Srinagar, the army was pelted with stones after the namaz. Should these people be shot on sight?”)

Clashes  did happen in Srinagar after Eid, but the images in the viral message are from unrelated and old incidents.
The message, accompanied with these fake images, has been widely shared on Facebook.

WHAT WE FOUND

Though clashes and stone-pelting did take place in Srinagar on 5 June after Eid prayers, the images being shared in the viral message are old and are from unrelated incidents.

A reverse image search led us to the original image, which was clicked by the Reuters’ photographer Danish Ismail on 15 January 2016 during a protest in Srinagar.

Greater Kashmir reported the incident, stating that clashes took place between the youth and the forces at Nowhatta after the congregational Friday prayers at Jama Masjid. The youth had started to chant pro-freedom slogans and the police and the paramilitary forces had to fire tear-gas canisters to disperse and quieten the protesters.

This image is that of a policeman who was injured during a clash between BJP workers and police in Lucknow outside the Vidhan Bhavan on 25 August 2016. A reverse search led us to an article by Patrika about the clash. The Indian Express reported 12 policemen to have been injured when BJP workers took to violence. An FIR was filed against them.

A reverse image search of this photo led us to news reports about the Pampore attack on a CRPF convoy that took place on 25 June 2016. The Quint had earlier reported that Khalid Waleed, the son-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, is suspected to have orchestrated the attack which killed eight jawans and injured 22.
