A video showing a man finding an undamaged copy of the Quran, the holy text in Islam, while everything around it is burnt has gone viral on social media.

The claim: Those sharing this clip are claiming that it shows the Quran surviving the fire caused by the Air India plane which crashed in Ahmedabad.

(Archives of more posts sharing this claim can be seen here, here, here, and here.)

Is it true?: No, the video has been on the internet since March 2025, predating the crash by three months.

  • Additionally, there are no credible reports about a Quran being found or remaining unburnt in the Air India plane crash.

How do we know?: We noticed that place seen in the video resembles an indoor place like a room, unlike the outdoor space where the plane had crashed.

  • A simple reverse image search led us to a Facebook post shared on 10 March 2025, a little over three months before the crash.

  • Its caption noted that despite the whole house burning down, the Quran remain safe.

  • However, it did not provide any more context for the video.

  • We also came across other social media posts from March, April, and May which had shared this video, without any mention of the location or any context.

Did a Quran survive the crash?: We looked for news reports mentioning this in connection to the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, but did not find any credible reports to corroborate the claim.

  • Several media outlets published reports (links here, here, and here) about a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a holy Hindu scripture, surviving the fire caused by the plane crash.

  • However, there was no evidence to prove that this was true.

Conclusion: An old video is being shared to falsely claim that it shows a copy of the Quran which remained unburnt in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
