Over the last few years, there has been significant chatter on how the current top brass of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ignored, or even worse, disrespected the party veteran Lal Krishna Advani.
An image featuring Advani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that recently went viral, stoked the fire of this narrative.
CLAIM
The purported image suggests Modi did not respond to Advani when he greeted him. The picture shows Advani folding his hands in a ‘Namaste’, while Modi has his hands clenched behind his back.
The photo got widely circulated on social media subsequently.
TRUE OR FALSE
False. The photo is from the function where the government released a commemorative coin in the honour of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Modi did respond to Advani’s gesture.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
The Quint accessed the original video footage of the entire function, available on the BJP’s YouTube channel.
In the video, from 15:10 to 15:20 mark, Modi and Advani can be seen interacting and clearly, the Prime Minister too did a ‘Namaste’ to Advani.
