CLAIM

A viral video of a woman reciting verses of the Quran, in what appears to be a radio station studio, is doing the rounds on social media.

The caption shared with the video claims that the woman is pop-singer Lady Gaga. In the 42-second clip, the woman is seen reciting Quran verses while wearing sunglasses.

The same video was shared by multiple users on YouTube with the caption: ‘Lady Gaga recites Quran verses’. One such instance of the video, posted on 26 February 2019, had acquired more than 8,508 views and 250 likes at the time of writing this piece.

Several Twitter users also shared the video with similar claims.

Many comments on the video critique and shame ‘Gaga’ for not covering her head while reciting the verses of the Quran.

TRUE OR FALSE?

On conducting a reverse image search of a key frame from the video, The Quint found out that the woman seen is not Lady Gaga but rather Tunisian singer Sofia Sadek.

A side-by-side comparison of a picture of Sadek and the woman seen in the video, who had recited the verses on Tunisian Radio Channel Radio Med, made it clear that the claim was false.
