CLAIM
A video is circulating on social media with a claim that the Rajasthan police has not taken any action against the two men who abduct and rape women from poor families.
In the video, two men can be seen beating an elderly woman while trying to abduct another.
The video has been shared with the caption that read: “ये वीडियो राजस्थान का है ये लोग गरीबो की ओरतों को सबके सामने उठाते है और बलात्कार करते है और उस जगह की पुलिस भी कुछ नही बोलती । इस वीडियो को इतना फैलाओ की वहाँ की पुलिस मजबूर हो जाये इनको गिरफ्तार करने के लिए (Translated: This video is from Rajasthan, they abduct women from poor families and rape them. The police is not taking any action against them. Share this video so that it reaches the police and there are forced to arrest them.)”
The video has also been shared on Facebook.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The Quint could confirm that this is an old video from Rajasthan and the two men who can be seen misbehaving with women have been arrested. The incident took place in Kalu Khan Ki Dhani village of Bap tehsil in Jodhpur district on 11 September 2017.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
On fragmenting the video in several key-frames and then conducting a reverse image search, we came across a YouTube video which suggested us that the incident is about two men kidnapping a minor in Rajasthan.
Taking ques from there, we carried out a Google keywords search using the terms “two men kidnapping a minor in Rajasthan”. This directed us to media reports by DNA, IBT and The Sun concerning the incident.
According to a report by the DNA, two men were arrested after a video of them abducting a minor girl and beating up her mother in Bap tehsil of Jodhpur went viral on social media.
The incident took place in a village in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur after a minor girl's father married her off to a man named Shaukat.
However, the girl’s mother refused to let her daughter go with the man since the girl had not attained a legal age of marriage at that time.
Furious with this, the girl’s husband along with his friend went to the girl’s place. When the mother tried to stopped them from taking her daughter, one of the men started beating her while the other man forcibly took the girl with them as seen on the video.
The Quint also reached out to Police Officer at the Bap tehsil police station, who confirmed that the incident is from 2017 and the two men were arrested shortly after the investigation.
