How do we know?: A simple reverse image search on the viral video led us to a video uploaded by India Today, which said that it showed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman speaking at the Indian High Commission in London.

  • In her speech, the finance minister spoke about investment opportunities in India, outlining the government's efforts towards sustaining economic growth in the country.

  • She went on to talk about the changing geopolitical dynamics for India, rural development, better agricultural production, improved export promotion, among other factors to ensure that "India remains resilient in the face of external challenges while leveraging domestic economic strength."

  • The video made no mention of any investment opportunity promising passive income.

  • Since there were no credible reports, visuals, or official announcements like the clip in the claim, we ran the video through AI generated content detectors.

  • Hive Moderation's tool gave the audio and video elements a zero percent chance of being authentic.

  • Contrails' tool, too, found that both elements had been manipulated with.

  • An expert's note in the report said that it had found that their model had "predicted this as AI-manipulated with fairly high confidence," while commenting on the audio and video elements.

Conclusion: A video, which was manipulated using AI, was shared to falsely claim that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promoted an investment app.
