A video is doing the rounds on the internet with a claim that it shows a Muslim man named Salim, who allegedly posted as 'Ravi', to marry a woman belonging to the Hindu community.

What have users said?: An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the video with a caption in Hindi insinuating that there are lakhs of Muslim men who are disguising themselves as Hindus to marry women belonging to the Hindu community.

(More archives of similar claims could be found here, here, and here.)

What are the facts?: The video is actually scripted and does not show a real incident, which makes the viral claim false.

  • It was shared by a YouTuber named 'Monty Deepak Sharma', who regularly posts such scripted content on his channel.

How did we find that out?: We conducted a simple reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip and found similar visuals uploaded on an Instagram handle named 'monty_deepak_sharma'.

  • It was posted on 24 July with a caption that said, "Ravi turned out to be Salim."

Finding the full version: On going through the Instagram handle, we found a link to the user's YouTube channel.

  • We found the full version posted on 23 July. Its caption said, "Salim did a love marriage by becoming Gaurav."

About the YouTube channel: Team WebQoof noticed that Sharma regularly shares such scripted content on his channel, where he routinely poses as a police personnel.

  • This clearly indicated that the clip did not show a real incident.

A recurring theme: The Quint's fact-checking team has previously debunked multiple scripted videos originally shared by Sharma, which later went viral as real incidents. You can read these reports here and here.

Conclusion: It is evident that the video is scripted and does not show a real incident as claimed by social media users.
